Jan Fretz, founder of fleur de soleil gallery & studio, was born in Waterloo County. She lived in Toronto for 30 years where she worked primarily in the woven and fabric arts. Her recent return to Waterloo has revived her interest in studying other media. She is currently a part-time student of Fine Arts (Studio) at the University of Waterloo, working in oil, acrylic, watercolour, printmaking and clay. Jan's work has found its way into homes and businesses in North America, Australia, Great Britain, Germany and Uganda. Her work is also featured on CD covers.

Jan Fretz specializes in fabric art and paintings. She is also a printmaker who has considerable experience teaching art to both children and adults in art programs at the Canadian Clay and Glass, Waterloo Community Arts Centre, Homer Watson Gallery and Elora Centre for the Arts. She teaches ages 2-90.
