Jan Fretz, founder of fleur de soleil gallery & studio, was born in Waterloo County. She lived in Toronto for 30 years where she worked primarily in the woven and fabric arts. Her recent return to Waterloo has revived her interest in studying other media.

She has her Fine Arts Honours (Studio Practice) with Distinction from the University of Waterloo. She works in oil, acrylic, watercolour, printmaking, encaustic, fabric arts, installations, clay, and sculpture.

Jan's area of expertise is in printmaking and painting.

Jan's work has found its way into homes and businesses in North America, Australia, Great Britain, Germany, South Korea and Uganda. Her work is also featured on CD covers.

Jan Fretz specializes in printmaking and painting. She has considerable experience teaching art to both children and adults in art programs at the Canadian Clay and Glass, Waterloo Community Arts Centre, Homer Watson Gallery, Breithaupt Centre, Pfeifer Gallery (Wellesley), Elora Centre for the Arts, Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, Art Spots (at the Seven Shores Cafe in Waterloo) and in private homes and home-based studios. She teaches ages 2-90 in ArtTWOgether.
